MCQUEEN RESIDENCE
SKY MEETS EARTH
Key Elements: Our goals for this project were to design a pool area and a firepit for people to gather. Include a spacious lawn area for activities that also offers privacy from neighbours using the existing spruce trees. Plan steps and entryways into the landscape and include a raised veggie garden area. The client wanted the project concept in a modern Scandinavian design style.
We named our project Sky Meets Earth because we were inspired by the Aurora Borealis, it glows in the northern hemisphere where Scandinavia is located.

RENDERED MASTER PLAN
Here is the site fully rendered in Lumion. You can see the entrance to the site with the steps going down merging into the walkway stepping stones to the already existing porch. From the lower porch you have accesses on both sides to the pool and on one side of the pool is a half pergola - half pool storage with a space for the pool equipment at the side of it. On the other side of the pool we have lounge chairs and across more stepping stones is access to the firepit area. Past the firepit is access through an arbor into the chain link gated veggie garden that is positioned in full sun.
AUTOCAD MASTER PLAN
Here is the to scaled AutoCAD version of our master plan. You can see the wavy rock garden on the right side of the plan much clearer.
MOODBOARD
We wanted to capture the spiritual dreamlike atmosphere by including colourful and whimsical plants in our planting palette along with coloured string lighting.
Secondly, the waves of the Aurora Borealis are imitated in the pool and we included other water features such as bubbler rocks and waterfalls for additional support and arranged the plants in a wave pattern.
Since it’s considered one of earth’s magical wonders, we decided to bring out the earth element and place strategic stone elements, mulch and bird feeders on the property and included a pollinator garden to attract birds and pollinators.
3D ILLUSTRATIONS
Here are several views of the 3D illustrations I did in Lumion for this project. I explored making the 3D illustration and played with a lighting example to showcase more of the aurora borealis concept to the clients.
